The same used vehicle asks 14% more in Saskatchewan than in Quebec

We compared 382 of the most-listed used vehicles in Canada across 46,238 live listings — same model year, same odometer band, one row per VIN. The province you are standing in moves the asking price more than most buyers or dealers would guess, and it moves it in a consistent direction.

Saskatchewan asks +8.6% against the national median for the same vehicle. Quebec asks -4.3%. Nothing about the cars explains it — the comparison holds the year, the model and the odometer fixed.

1 · What each province asks for the same vehicle

Each bar is the median of (that province's median price ÷ the national median price) across every vehicle the province has enough listings to measure. Because every vehicle is compared only against itself nationally, this is not an artifact of one province stocking more trucks than another.

2 · Where a single vehicle splits furthest

The most expensive and cheapest provincial median for one vehicle, in dollars. Every pair below survived the odometer band, so these are not high-kilometre cars in one province and low-kilometre cars in another.

3 · The Quebec corridor

The index above is a single trade route wearing a chart's clothes. Quebec is the cheapest large market in the country and the Prairies and British Columbia are the most expensive, so the same vehicle bought in Quebec and sold west carries a spread before anyone has negotiated anything. Below, every vehicle where both ends clear the sample floor.

Spreads are asking prices, not transaction prices, and they are gross of transport, provincial safety and emissions inspection, tax treatment, and the discount a buyer negotiates at each end. They are the starting line, not the profit.
