OmniaAuto Market Report · October 2026 edition · data as of 2 October 2026

The same used vehicle asks 13% more in Saskatchewan than in Quebec

We compared 396 of the most-listed used vehicles in Canada across 48,082 live listings — same model year, same odometer band, one row per VIN. The province you are standing in moves the asking price more than most buyers or dealers would guess, and it moves it in a consistent direction.

Saskatchewan asks +7.5% against the national median for the same vehicle. Quebec asks -4.5%. Nothing about the cars explains it — the comparison holds the year, the model and the odometer fixed.

1 · What each province asks for the same vehicle

Each bar is the median of (that province's median price ÷ the national median price) across every vehicle the province has enough listings to measure. Because every vehicle is compared only against itself nationally, this is not an artifact of one province stocking more trucks than another.

2 · Where a single vehicle splits furthest

The most expensive and cheapest provincial median for one vehicle, in dollars. Every pair below survived the odometer band, so these are not high-kilometre cars in one province and low-kilometre cars in another.

3 · The Quebec corridor

The index above is a single trade route wearing a chart's clothes. Quebec is the cheapest large market in the country and the Prairies and British Columbia are the most expensive, so the same vehicle bought in Quebec and sold west carries a spread before anyone has negotiated anything. Below, every vehicle where both ends clear the sample floor.

Spreads are asking prices, not transaction prices, and they are gross of transport, provincial safety and emissions inspection, tax treatment, and the discount a buyer negotiates at each end. They are the starting line, not the profit.

Method

Every used listing live on 2 October 2026 in the OmniaAuto corpus (796,105 listings, 630,282 unique VINs), model years 2015–2025, asking price $3,000–$200,000, odometer 1,000–400,000 km.

  • One row per VIN. 2,924 used VINs appear at dealers in more than one province. Each car is counted once, at its most recently seen listing, so a single vehicle cannot vote in two provinces.
  • Odometer-matched. A listing is only compared against others within ±25% of that vehicle's national median odometer. This is the correction that matters: without it, a 2020 Silverado looks $12,742 cheaper in Ontario, which is really 136,683 km in Ontario against 59,292 km in British Columbia. Median odometer is printed beside every price above so the bands can be checked.
  • Sample floors. A province/vehicle cell needs ≥10 listings to appear; a vehicle needs ≥60 nationally. Medians throughout, never means.
  • What this does not control for. Trim and options. A province whose buyers skew toward loaded trucks will read slightly dear here, and that is inside these numbers — model year, model and odometer are held fixed, trim is not. It is the reason to read the direction and the size of these gaps rather than any single dollar figure as a precise premium.
  • Asking prices. This is what sellers are advertising, not what buyers paid. Canada has no public transaction-price feed; every listings-based analysis, including this one, measures ask.

Numbers are fixed as of the date at the top of this page. A later run publishes a NEW dated edition at its own permanent URL rather than silently editing this one.

How to cite this

The figures on this page are permanent. This is the October 2026 edition; it was minted once and is never overwritten, so a citation made against it keeps resolving to the numbers it quoted.
